Born in Odessa in 1948. in 1965 graduated from the Odessa Ballet School, the graduated from the Leningrad State Choreographic Institute named after A. Vaganova. From 1968 1991 he is a premier dancer of the Mussorgsky State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre; danced parts from classic and contemporary repertoire. In 1981 graduated from the High School of Humanities and Culture (presently, St. Petersburg State University of Humanities and Social Sciences), choreography department. Yury started his teaching career at Leningrad Academic Choreography School named after Vaganova in 1982. Then, since 1991 has taught dancing (being a professor) at the stage movement department of the St. Petersburg State Theatre Arts Academy. He has frequently given workshops in Russia and abroad. Yury Vasilkov writes a lot of articles about dance teaching in a drama school. With his contribution, the theatre has created such performances as Claustrophobia, A Play Without a Title, Life and Fate, Love`s Labour`s Lost.
