Born in Ukraine in 1949. Graduated from the Moscow State Circus and Stage Arts Academy and the St. Petersburg State Theatre Arts Academy, directing department. Worked with the Omsk State Philharmonic. The he joined the Singing Guitars band. Appeared in the plays Orpheus and Eurydice by A. Zhurbin and Till Ulenspiegel by R. Grinblat. Yury also worked with the Experiment Theatre, performing in the plays Perpetuum Mobile, Shapito, Steppenwolf, Italian Anecdotes, The Trial, Laugh Class, The Laughatorium, etc. Since 1989 – professor of the stage movement department at the St. Petersburg State Theatre Arts Academy. Since 1990 Yury Khamutyansky has worked with the Maly Drama Theatre. Participated in creating Gaudeamus, Claustrophobia, A Play Without a Title, Chevengur and The Seagull, Life and Fate, Warsaw Melody, Love`s Labour`s Lost. Now he is working with the Maly Drama Theatre as a coach for actors.He also assisted Lev Dodin with opera productions of Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District, Mazepa, and The Demon.
