Born in Leningrad in 1938. Graduated from the artistic staging department of Leningrad State Institute of Theatre Music and Cinematography (Nikolay Akimov's class) in 1959.
Marina Azizyan is a theatre and cinema designer and a painter who also works with appliquй and sewing. For 30 years she has worked as a set designer on many films produced by Lenfilm Studio; among them there are: Monologue by Ilya Averbakh, The Blue Bird by G. Cukor (USA), The Guest by Alexander Kaidanovsky, and films by Nadezhda Kashevarova based on fairy tales, etc. Marina Azizyan also made sets for musical and drama performances. Major productions include Swan Lake (choreography by V. Vasiliev, Bolshoy Theatre, Moscow); Hamlet (E. Kolobov, New Opera, Moscow); Ours and Only Ours (Z. Korogodsky, Leningrad Young Viewers' Theatre); Twelfth Night, or Anything (choreography by Boris Eifman, music by G. Donizetti, Boris Eifman's Leningrad Theatre of Modern Ballet, St. Petersburg); Phaedra (staged by G. Dityatkovsky, BDT, St. Petersburg).
Marina began exhibiting her works in 1959 and since then has had nine one-woman shows in Petersburg, Moscow, Italy and Germany.
Creator and organizer of the yearly Christmas Exhibits at the Anna Akhmatova Museum (Fontany Dom, Petersburg), in which she participates as an artist and creator of sets for her Christmas Puppet Theatre. The artist's works are displayed at museums in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Klin, and also in Russian and foreign private collections.
