Born in Moscow in 1960. Graduated from the staging department of MKhAT Drama School Studio (I. Maligina`s class). Since 1983 - design director of the Tabakov Theatre. Alexander has created over 70 performances in many Moscow theatres, particularly Theatre Sovremennik, Mayakovsky Theatre, Satire Theatre, MKhAT, the Maly Theatre, Theatre Satirikon, Stanislavsky Theatr, and others. Has worked with A. Shapiro, V. Mashkov, S. Zhenovach, and others. Working as the design director of the Tabakov Theatre, he secured the same position at the Meyerhold Centre. In cooperation with V. Fokin he has created over 10 performances. Alexander has worked in cinema and on television. Has been a participant of some international theatre exhibitions. Has worked on several productions in the United States, Finland, Denmark, Austria. Alexander started working with Lev Dodin in 2007 on the performance of Love`s Labour’s Lost. His second work at the Maly Drama Theatre was Long Day’s Journey Into Night.
Alexander is a Merited Artist of Russia, the winner of the State Prize of Russia, the winner of the Stanislavsky Award (2008) in the nomination Production Design for the best scenography of the recent years.
